WALLACE — The Lady Miners volleyball team ran the gauntlet this season, and two of their players were rewarded for their efforts.

Seniors Kynlie Frey and Catie Sheppard were named to Northstar League All-League team and the coaches who picked the team couldn’t have made better choices.

Sheppard and Frey played all over the court for the Miners and were a vital part of their success this season.

“I think one of our strengths was that we always were looking to make improvements throughout the season,” Sheppard said. “We were always looking to get better.”

Going as far as to even change their rotation prior to their final match with Genesee, the Miners worked to make sure that no one could ever fully expect what they were going to do.

“We gelled together as a team very quickly which made the season a lot of fun,” Sheppard said. “Nothing against the past teams I have been on, but this team really worked well together.”

Unlike other teams, this team had no drama, which made the season move smoothly.

Sheppard is going to miss playing for Anali Spooner, but also really she just wishes she had another shot.

“I wish I had just one more chance at that playing game,” Sheppard said. “I feel like we could’ve beat them.”

Sheppard plans on pursuing nursing at LCSC after graduation, and at this time Frey is undecided on a major, but plans on going to college as well.

Sheppard believes that the returning team has the capabilities to make it to the state tournament next year if they put in the work.

“They’d better go to state,” Sheppard said with a smile. “I am expecting it.”
