Mary Rae Faraca, 87
Mary Rae Faraca, 87, of Kellogg, Idaho, peacefully passed away on December 8, 2018. She was born on September 30, 1931 in Oakley, Idaho; the daughter of Jay and Euretta (Cutler) Thompson.
Mary Rae attended and graduated from Moscow High School in Moscow, Idaho. She then attended the University of Idaho where she obtained her teaching degree and graduated with honors.
She arrived to the Silver Valley in 1953 and started teaching at Kellogg High School. Shortly thereafter, she met and married her loving husband and fellow teacher, Ray Faraca, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church on April 4, 1956, with whom she had six sons, well known in town as the “Faraca Boys”: Jay, Tobin, Pat, Brett, Tony, and Guy.
During her 38 year career at Kellogg High, Mary Rae taught English, Speech, Drama, and Journalism. She also served as the Secretary of the Idaho High School Athletic Association. Mrs. Faraca’s commitment and dedication to her school and the countless students she taught and impacted is her wonderful and lasting legacy.
Mary Rae was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority at the University of Idaho, where she also earned the prestigious honor of Phi Beta Kappa. She was a member of the Lady Elks in Kellogg, as well as a longtime member of the Kellogg Booster Club.
Mary Rae had many hobbies including sewing and creating amazing quilts. She enjoyed canning and baking and was famous for her delectable desserts. Mary Rae was an avid reader all of her life. She had a special love for the theater and especially musicals; so much in fact, she traveled to attend plays and musicals in New York and San Francisco on numerous occasions. She was fond of traveling and camping with her family, as well. And when she wasn’t busy playing referee to her sons, she was a strong supporter of their athletics and loved attending their sporting events.
Mary Rae is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Raymond Faraca of Kellogg, Idaho; her six sons, Jay (Barbara) Faraca of Newman Lake, Washington, Tobin (Cindy) Faraca of Kingston, Idaho, Pat (Suzanne) Faraca of Post Falls, Idaho, Brett Faraca of Kellogg, Idaho, Tony (Brandie) Faraca of Boise, Idaho, and Guy (Lynn) Faraca of Lafayette, Colorado; her nine grandchildren, Rosie (Noah), Jeremiah (Kamri), Misty Dawn, Sophia, Joe, Marlie, Cash, Gabe, and Nick; her great-granddaughter, Chyles; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mary Rae was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Betty.
There will be a memorial mass held at 11:00 a.m. on December 29th, 2018 at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kellogg, Idaho, with Father Jerome Montez officiating. A reception/luncheon will be held in the Church Fellowship Hall following services. Everyone is welcome.
