Kellogg Mayor's Corner

| December 14, 2018 1:53 PM

The construction season for the city of Kellogg’s Sewer Rehabilitation and Replacement Project has ended. 2018 was a very busy and productive year. The project is on schedule and will finish within the monthly service fee set by the city council.

Roads yet unpaved, will be monitored and maintained over the winter months. Paving will occur late next spring or early summer when the weather provides an opportunity to get the best paving product possible. A limited amount of open pipe work and cure in-place work is planned for next year prior to paving.

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved for all of the hard work necessary to get the 2018 season completed and to all of our residents for their patience and understanding as the weeks turned into months. At the risk of missing someone, I want to thank Knife River, Big Sky Development, Coeur d’Alene Paving and especially all of their employees who worked day after day in the rain and the summer heat to “get it done.” Your dedication and willingness to assist residents with special needs or requests did not go unnoticed, thank you.

As noted, I want to thank all of our residents and the business community for your patience and cooperation associated with the project, it too has not gone unnoticed. I want to thank our city employees who work hard to complete their regular duties while helping to make sure time is available to accommodate sewer project needs. Thanks to Alta Engineering and Science and to their staff for all of their hard work. Thanks to our partners at Panhandle Area Council and USDA Rural Development for all of their support and the funding they provided, without their help this project would not have been possible.

I want to thank all of the utility districts and agencies who continue to provide support and advice as to how to get sewer work done without compromising that which they have a responsibility to provide and maintain. Thanks to Central Shoshone Water District for their participation and willingness to install new water lines while sewer lines were being installed. Thank you to EPA, IDEQ and the Roads Board for your support and willingness to help coordinate road paving with the sewer project.

Last but not least, I want to thank my council president, Mr. Terry Douglas and to the entire city council for their willingness to take this project on and for their complete and continued support of the project since it began.

I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Great New Year. If you have any questions or concerns about the project contact Mr. Craig Lewis, superintendent of Public works at 208-786-9131. On weekends, holidays or after work hours, you may contact Mr. Lewis by calling the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Dispatch at 208-556-1114 and ask that they contact him for you.
