KHS Winter Carnival continues to grow
KELLOGG — Earlier this week the students at Kellogg High School hosted their annual winter carnival for families to come and enjoy.
The carnival was a group effort between KHS’s leadership class and the KHS United Club, who hoped that they could build off last year’s successful event.
“Elana Estill, the adviser for KHS United put it on for the first time last year and the leadership class helped this year,” KHS leadership instructor Kelton Enich said. “Last year about 80 community members showed up and we think this year over 100 people came to partake in the festivities.”
The carnival features many family friendly activities with things like carnival games, face painting, a chili dinner, as well as a special appearance from Santa and Mrs. Claus (played by KHS students Grant Turner and Jaymee Sheppard).
Serving that many people is a huge undertaking for the student-led groups, but through help from school funded grant the event was able to come together perfectly.
Families were also able to have their picture taken with Santa at no cost to the families.
As mentioned, the event was put on entirely by the students, as they manned the activities, face painting, did holiday baking and much of the cooking.
All the other students designed winter-themed carnival games for the children to play, such as “Pin the Nose on Rudolph” or “Help Cut Down the Christmas Tree” with foam snowballs and cardboard trees and “Ice Fishing” to fish for candy.
“The smiles on the kids' faces when they saw Santa and Mrs. Claus was really rewarding,” Enich said. “All the families seemed to have a lot of fun and were thankful for the work we put in to make it a magical evening.”
