KELLOGG — Silver Mountain Ski Resort has continuously upgraded their facilities and amenities over the years to provide their customers with a quality experience, but they may have just hit a homerun with their newest venture.

For the skiers and snowboarders, finding time to get from home to the gondola base can be tough, and it can be even tougher on an empty stomach, but now the Donut Hole has arrived.

As winter sports enthusiasts make their way to the gondola, they will pass by the new little shop that will give them an option for a quick snack that they can take up the mountain— one that specializes in mini-donuts.

Just like the mini-donuts that are a popular attraction at the Spokane Arena, these little guys will be available along with a full menu of drinks and other fast breakfast foods.

Eric Burkholder, the food and drink director for Silver Mountain, has been with the company for two year and in this time has been very active in developing several new food items for Silver Mountain.

“We were looking for ways that we could enhance the guest experience, which is something we have been trying to do since the new owners took over,” Burkholder said.

The shop ran a sort of soft opening, and the response went over well, but the real test of success will be this weekend at the Jackass Day 50 Year Anniversary event.

“We will have the donuts and we will be rolling out some other food options like bagels, we’re thinking about some breakfast burritos, and we will have coffee and hot cocoa along with some alcoholic drinks,” Burkholder said. “There is going to be quite a few people down here, for some this is the only time they go up and enjoy the mountain, so we’re hoping that the people who make their way here enjoy what we’re doing.”

Obviously Silver Mountain isn’t a one-trick pony and has amassed quite the following for summertime mountain biking.

“We’re going to see how it goes this winter,” Burkholder said. “That will probably determine what we do for the mountain bikers. We would try to tailor that to that crowd and have some different options for them.”

The shop will be open on weekends from 7 a.m. through 11 a.m., but will be open slightly longer this weekend as demand warrants.

The shop is located past Noah’s restaurant as guests head toward the gondola.
