Marjorie “Marge” Ruth Madsen, 91

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and sister, Marjorie “Marge” Ruth Madsen, 91, of Big Creek-Kellogg, passed away January 12, 2018 at her home of Big Creek-Kellogg. She was born September 3, 1926 in Park Rapids, Minnesota; Marge was the daughter of Carl Melroy and Ida (Gottsman) Hansen.

Marge grew up on the White Birch Camp Resort on Man Trap Lake of which her parents owned in Minnesota. She worked on the resort starting at the age of five, washing bedding, cleaning, using a hand pump for water, a ringer washing machine and using irons that were heated on the wood stove. Marge learned at an early age, to fillet fish for the tourists that had caught fish on the lake and in the winter would help gather ice for the ice house and help pack the ice in sawdust.

Marge married Roy Donald Madsen, Sr. on November 19, 1943 in Park Rapids, Minnesota.. After their marriage, Marge and Roy worked on farms and for the Marshall’s Defense Plant of Park Rapids, in support of the war effort.

In 1948, Roy and Marge moved to the Silver Valley due to the mining industry job opportunities and started their family. Besides being the best mother and homemaker ever, Marge also worked in the Pik Kwiks Grocery store bakery, a Sewing Center in Coeur d’ Alene, the PEM Company, and McDonalds in 1993-being one of the original and oldest crew members.

Marge was a member of the Silver Valley Stock Car Racing Association, had served as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts, a Blue Bird leader, very involved in Little League Baseball, the Wallace Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, the Silver Valley Square Dancing Club and the Shoshone Ranger Saddle Club-where she helped with fund raisers and concession stands. Marge had also volunteered for commodities and senior meal sites.

Marge’s greatest joy were her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She loved and enjoyed stock car racing, sewing, crocheting afghans and mittens, making quilts out of blocks that Roy and she cut out, vegetable and flower gardening, canning, fishing, cooking for her family and holiday meals including her last Christmas Eve of Leffsa, pickled hearing, German potato salad, ham and German baked beans. Marge also enjoyed dancing with Roy, yahtzee, aggravation, pinochle, dominos and walking on crunchy snow.

Marge is survived by one daughter Carla and Faron Bassemier of Cataldo, Idaho; one son Wayne Allen and Claudia Madsen of El Cajon, California; grandchildren Don Madsen, Virginia Bassemier Sjogren, Jesse Bassemier, Chad Madsen, Joey Madsen, Chantel Madsen, Candie Madsen, Caitlyn Renner, Sara Madsen Byrne, Roy Donald Madsen III; great-grandchildren Allen, Katie Mae, Matthew, Sammy, Kala, Kacey, Sara, Mica, Abbey, Aubbrey, Ashton, Alex, Gracie, Emmitt, Jace, Delaney, Chloe, Cassidie, Joshua, Lillian, Jazmin, Jaden, Destiny, Clarissa and Autumn; great-great grandchildren Emmalynn, Jackson, Jamie, Shawna, Allison and Allin; one sister Shari Brady of Siletz, Oregon; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy in 2001, one brother Carl M. Hansen, two sons Roy Donald Madsen, Jr. and Joel Allen Madsen, one great-grandson Gary L.E. Sjogren and one granddaughter Candie Jo Madsen.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 20th, 2018, at 1:00 P.M. at the Kellogg Funeral Chapel of Kellogg with Pastor Gene Jacobs officiating. A reception/luncheon will be held at the Real Life Ministries of Pinehurst following services.
