Philip “Ike” Ivan Griner, 81

Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend Philip “Ike” Ivan Griner, 81, of

Kellogg, Idaho, passed away January 12, 2018 at his home in Kellogg. He was born March 13,

1936 in Stites, Idaho; Ike was the son of Phillip and Ada “Babe” (Collins) Griner.

Ike grew up in Wallace, Idaho, and later joined the United States Army where he served

honorably before being discharged. He then went on to study at the University of Idaho. In the

younger years, Ike worked on lookouts for the forest service spotting fires. Ike eventually moved

on to working underground at various mines including, the Sunshine Mine, Page Mine and

Cresent Mine. He also spent one year working for Asarco as a boss, gold mining in Nicaragua.

Ike started and taught the mining class at the Wallace High School for several years, before going

to work in Colorado for Morrison Knudsen.

On January 30, 1965, Ike was united in marriage to Roma Harkness. Together they had five

children. They later divorced. He then met and married a Columbian girl for a very short time.

In his free time Ike enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, riding his motorcycles and tinkering

with things. One of Ike’s proudest moments, as a father, was being able to coach his children’s

baseball teams. Ike took pride in being able to provide for his family.

Ike is survived by his five children Philip Griner, Kimberly & (John) Orsburn, Sheridan Griner,

Sara &(Jeremy) Orton and Yvonne & (Heath) Schillereff; three sibling Royce & (Kay) Griner,

Vonda & (Dennis) Woods and Ronda &(Marv) Mason; nineteen grandchildren Heather, Jerad,

Jesselyn, Donnevyn, Devon, Christopher, Casey, Daman, Austin, Skylar, Dakota, Ashlyn,

Allysen, Kaden, Brielle, Noah, Dani, Isabella. Tavia and twelve great-grandchildren Stacy, Audri,

Klair, Gabe, Jaxon, Mayli, Mercedes, Lilly, Lila, Laikyn, Araya and Kacie. Ike is also survived

by several nieces and nephews. Ike was preceded in death by his grandchild Deven Shultz, four

siblings, Carl, Donna, LaVerne, Nancy and his parents.

A Celebration of Ike’s life will be held at the Silver Valley Assembly of God. 321 S Division Street,

Kellogg, ID on Saturday, January 20th at 11:00 a.m. Food will be served following the service at the

church. We would also like to invite friends and family to meet at the Kings Inn at 2:00 p.m. to

have a rum and coke in honor of Ike’s more social, adventurous, and fun filled life.
