Kellogg and Wallace wrestling
The Kellogg and Wallace wrestling teams worked together during the North Idaho Rumble and despite some holes in each other’s rosters, had a good showing at the event.
“We wrestled really well on Thursday in our duals with Bonners Ferry and American Falls,” Kellogg coach Scott Miller said. “We give up a number of forfeits but in the head to head matchups we went 12-4 on the night.
“We wrestled with Wallace wrestlers to fill weights and won both duals with them. Without them we would’ve split. It was a good night of wrestling.”
Kellogg had some really bright spots this weekend with Judson Hall (126 pounds) earning fourth at the 21-team Rumble at Coeur d’Alene High. Wildcat Taylor Bush finished sixth at 113 pounds.
“Judson wrestled really well all weekend,” Miller said. “Taylor sustained a foot injury at the tournament so we defaulted him after his semifinal match but we expect that he'll be ready for next week. Both Dakota Eixenberger at 98 (pounds) and Jesse Campbell continue to do good things for us and both win over the 20 win mark this weekend.”
For Wallace, Austin McKinnon had a good weekend at 106 pounds and finished a solid 5th.
“We look forward to this weekend with our IML dual against Priest River and the Bonners Ferry Tournament on the weekend,” Miller said.

Kellogg girls basketball
Tuesday, Jan. 23
Clark Fork (Mont.) 58, Kellogg 49: The Wildcats faced a sturdy test in the form of the Clark Fork (Mont.) Mountain Cats.
Clark Fork jumped on Kellogg from the outset, but the Wildcats responded and pulled ahead briefly before losing their lead.
At the break the Wildcats trailed 28-25.
The third quarter was played at a similar pace to the first half with both teams trading baskets and the game being played at an even pace.
Clark Fork pulled away in the fourth quarter though as foul trouble and silly turnovers cost the Wildcats.
Despite the less than desired outcome, the Wildcats had a balanced scoring load as Kaili Cates finished with 15 points, Katlin Senteney had 13, and Kat Rauenhorst chipped in 10.
Friday, Jan. 26
Bonners Ferry 62, Kellogg 40: The Wildcats dropped an Intermountain League contest at Bonners Ferry.
No stats or information was received for this game.
Saturday, Jan. 27
Timberlake 58, Kellogg 31: Kaili Cates scored 10 points for Kellogg, but it wasn’t enough as the Tigers completed the regular season sweep of the Wildcats. Kellogg shot 15-for-19 from the free-throw line in the road loss.
Kellogg can move into a tie for second place in the Intermountain League should Bonners Ferry lose to Timberlake later this week, and Kellogg beats Priest River and Bonners Ferry this week.
Mullan boys basketball
Tuesday, Jan. 23
Mullan 60, Kootenai 56: Triston Usdrowski poured in 35 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Kootenai, but the host Warriors fell 60-56 to Mullan in North Star League play Tuesday night.
Skye Gallaway scored 14 points to lead the Tigers while Seth Dechand pitched in 10 points for Mullan.
Friday, Jan. 26
Genesis Prep 84, Mullan 19: It was a rough offensive night for Mullan as the Jaguars beat the Tigers in North Star League play at Post Falls Middle School
Caden Crandall, Gryphon Todd and Seth Dechand each scored five points for Mullan, which is in third place in the league.
Mullan returns to action on Thursday at home vs. Kootenai.
Wallace boys basketball
Tuesday, Jan. 23
Wallace 84, Lakeside 72: Zack Welch continued his MVP season during a North Star League win over the Knights at Ron Miller Court.
Welch scored 34 points for Wallace, while Erik Brackebusch notched 26 points of his own.
Friday, Jan. 26
Wallace 65, Bonners Ferry 52: Hunter Gust scored 16 points to lead the host Miners past the Badgers at Kirby Krulitz Court.
Outside of an evenly played first quarter, the Miners outplayed the Badgers the entire rest of the game. Erik Brackebusch chipped 15 points for Wallace.
Kellogg boys basketball
Wednesday, Jan. 24
Kellogg 60, Medical Lake 50: The Wildcats were on the road on Wednesday for a makeup game with the Cardinals.
Kellogg built a 24-6 lead after the first quarter, but Medical Lake responded and cut into the lead by the intermission.
In the second half the Wildcats built a 21-point lead only to see the Cardinals cut it to just six points late in the fourth quarter.
Kellogg would ice the game with free throws down the stretch.
Chase Jerome finished with 18 points, while Tanner Mueller and Trevor Bumgardner both finished with nine points apiece.
Saturday, Jan. 27
Kellogg 71, Timberlake 43: The visiting Wildcats pressed their way to a 51-15 halftime lead to beat the Tigers in Inter-mountain League action.
“They came out and pressed us and we forgot what color jersey we were wearing, threw it to them and they got some easy buckets,” Timberlake coach Michael Scott said. “We did exactly what they wanted us to do — shot the ball too early — and threw the ball away. We made an adjustment at halftime, but we just couldn’t overcome their press. They’re physically strong and well coached. I’d say they’re our state champions at the 3A level.”
Chase Jerome scored 17 points while Tyler Gibbons chipped in 16 for Kellogg.
