WALLACE — It’s time to come find your inner artist and there’s no better place to that than Create Pottery Inc. in Wallace.

Create Pottery opened up last November and after surviving what has become known as the toughest time for businesses in Wallace (winter), it has thrived and even grown.

Painting pottery is an excellent family activity, and fits a perfect niche in downtown Wallace.

Owner MacKenzie Ploharz never thought her dream would become a reality, but has managed to stay very humble despite her success.

“We kind of talked about it like it was a joke at first, but then I applied for a business loan and it got approved,” Ploharz said. “We opened up last November in a small shop on Bank Street, and I won’t lie to you, but there were some days that have been hit and miss, but my husband and I are from here and we knew what we were getting into. But we have done well and have even moved into a bigger building.”

That bigger building was the old Wallace Hardware building that formerly housed Price Tag Antiques.

Ploharz, a 2011 Wallace High School graduate and art enthusiast does all of her own pottery and designing, before making it available for folks to come into her studio and paint them.

But she is looking to continue to grow.

“We are working on getting even more pottery wheels, that way people can come in and learn pottery, make their own piece, I’ll fire it for them, and then they can come back and paint it,” Ploharz said. “A lot of people ask me about doing pottery classes, and that definitely will become a thing.”

Create Pottery has also become a mainstay at the wildly successful Kellogg Farmer’s Market.

“This has been huge for us,” Ploharz said of the farmer’s market. “Just last week had 12 people come to the studio in Wallace after seeing me here. Plus we'll always have a weekly $5 project here for people to do.”

Create Pottery Inc. is located at 618 Bank St. in Wallace and is open from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
