Park your bikes in Kellogg!
KELLOGG — The Historic Silver Valley Chamber of Commerce (HSVCC), in collaboration with the City of Kellogg and the Kellogg High School metal shop class, have constructed and distributed several new bicycle racks all over the Kellogg area.
The new racks are part of the community’s continued emphasis on making Kellogg as bike-friendly as possible.
The project took over a year to complete as the HSVCC tried many different ideas before approaching KHS metal shop teacher Brandon Hoxie.
“Mr. Hoxie sent me an email with some samples and we decided on the one we liked and they began making them,” organizer Sarah Still said.
Still had the idea of customizing each rack to the business that it belonged to, which has led to some pretty fantastic work from Hoxie and his students.
As of now, there are five different racks on display and ready for use. Three in front of local businesses Radio Brewing, Hill Street Depot and The Bean, and two located at community places such as the Silver Bee Community Garden and the Historic Silver Valley Chamber of Commerce.
There will soon be one placed at the Local Real Estate office at the Silver Mountain base.
Each rack is customized with the business’s logo on the ends, which gives each one a distinct and unique look.
“We wanted to make Kellogg bike friendly and accessible for people as possible and this is a step in the right direction,” Still said. “We are hoping to get even more businesses on board and make the city destination for people who love biking.”
Outside of the cost of materials, there is no additional fee to purchase one of these customized racks and any business owners that are interested in purchasing one should contact Sarah Still at (208)512-2635 or by email at tandsfood@gmail.com.
