Wallace city pool remains closed
WALLACE — Despite shooting for an early June opening, the Wallace city pool continues to remain closed due to several structural and mechanical issues.
On May 29, pool supervisor Ed Chilgren announced via email that the pool was set to open on June 8. Two days before that date though, Chilgren walked back this announcement due to “some maintenance issues from winter” and stated that “the pool opening will be delayed around 2 weeks.”
Since that time, those curious about the pool’s progress remained informed from updates released by the “The Friends of the Wallace City Pool” on their Facebook page.
The page announced further delays two days before the two-week mark that Chilgren set earlier in the month.
“They found a few more issues with the pool seals,” the group stated. “They are now targeting June 27 as the new opening date.”
On June 27, the page posted an update from Chilgren that said the pool was repaired and was being filled. Three days later though, another setback popped up.
“The pool won’t be opening this week. We still have a leak that we have not found,” the group said. “Ed went into the pool today and it lost 3 feet of water overnight. So, they are trying to find it and repair it. It hasn’t been an easy year for getting the pool open.”
On July 12, it was announced that although the pool has not been declared officially closed for the season, the issues plaguing it “are complex and require the advice of specialists” and “it will take time and coordination to get the information necessary.”
Because of these new issues, city officials or pool management have no timetable for the completion of repairs.
The Friends of the Wallace City Pool group incorrectly reported on July 10 that the city of Wallace officially closed the pool for the summer.
Chilgren declined to comment on the situation.
In the meantime, those looking for swim lessons are encouraged to call the Kellogg city pool for more information.
