While a great amount of work is yet to be done, each day we move a little closer to completing the City of Kellogg’s Sewer Replacement and rehabilitation Project.

Phase III road crews are working hard to finish preparing McKinley Ave. in anticipation of paving. Road preparation, including certain sections of sidewalk and curbing should be completed early next week. Paving is currently scheduled to occur at the end of July or the first week of August. This will be a large effort that will complete McKinley Ave. from where they left off with the last pave out near Mt. Health, all the way East to Main Street.

A mainline sewer crew is now working on Teddy Ave. and Park Ave. Work in this area will likely take two weeks. It will be followed with road work in preparation for paving at a later date.

Work continues on Phase II throughout the north side of Kellogg. This is a large area of town and crews are working hard to complete it as quickly as possible.

A service crew is busy making sewer connections on Mullan Ave. This will be followed by waterline installation and service connections. If no problems are encountered, this work should be done around the end of July or the first part of August.

Sewer service work is also occurring on Mission Ave. to be followed by water. A third sewer crew will soon be heading to Elder and moving east towards Helen. Sewer work in this area will be followed with the installation of waterline.

Water services are being connected on Riverside Ave. east of Hill Street. This will be followed by storm line repairs. Once completed, work will then begin to repair sidewalks and curbing.

At long last, Riverside Ave. will be prepped for paving. Barring any unforeseen problems, the next pave out is scheduled for August 7th, 8th and 9th. The areas to be paved at that time include Riverside Ave. from Chestnut east to Division Street, Mullan Ave. from Chestnut east to Hill Street and Cedar Street from Cameron Ave. north to Mission Ave.

Crews will be headed back to Cameron Ave. on July 25th and 26th. They will begin working where they left off last year and proceed east towards Division Street. Mainline sewer and water will be installed, followed with both sewer and water services connections. This will then be followed by road prep and paving which will occur at a later date. Additional sewer work will occur on Division Street for a short distance both north and south of the Cameron Ave.-Division Street intersection.

Please be safe. Obey road closure signs and drive carefully around and through active construction zones. Watch out for pedestrians and especially young children and pets. Remember, operators of heavy equipment may have blind spots that make it hard to see vehicles and pedestrians so give them plenty of room to maneuver. Please continue to be patient with all that is going on and don’t be afraid to say thank you to those who are working hard under very hot and difficult conditions on your behalf.

Parents are again being asked to remind their children to avoid active construction zones and to not play on material piles placed throughout the area.

After a rocky start the Kellogg swimming pool is now open on their regular schedule and admittance is once again free of charge while the sewer project is underway.

Anyone needing special assistance related to the sewer project or who may have questions or concerns should contact Mr. Craig Lewis, Superintendent of Public Works at (208) 786- 9131. On weekends, holidays or after work hours you may contact Mr. Lewis by calling the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Dispatch at (208) 556-1114 and ask that they contact him for you.
