Doody (Freeman) Morfin, 72
Doody (Freeman) Morfin, 72, went to be with the Lord on November 26, 2017, surrounded by her family, joining her beloved sister whom she has missed dearly.
Doody was born on January 4, 1945, daughter of Bill and Ann McKeen. She grew up in Battle Mountain, NV, where she graduated in 1963. She moved to Kellogg, ID as a young adult. Doody attended and graduated from Millie’s Beauty School and began a lifelong career as a beautician. For several years she worked at Georgine’s Hair Salon in Kellogg, ID. She would later go on to be an instructor at Headmasters in Coeur d’Alene and Boise. She enjoyed her time as an instructor very much and would tease her students saying “good luck trying to sneak anything by me!”. Sure enough, though some tried they rarely succeeded. She loved the outdoor activities that Northern Idaho had to offer, enjoying swimming, camping, and fishing. She also loved to dance. Doody lived in the Silver Valley until 1990.
In 1989 she became reacquainted with her high school sweetheart, LeRoy Morfin. They were married in 1990, relocating to Elko, NV then to Meridian, ID. They were happily married for 27 years. She continued working as a hairdresser for several more years, procrastinating retirement because she worried about some of her elderly clients not having anyone to do their hair. She had a heart for her weekly clients, many of whom became her dear friends. If one of her “ladies”, as she called them, were no longer able to drive, Doody would schedule enough time to go get them and bring them to have their hair done. If she heard of a need that one of them had, she wouldn’t rest until she met that need or found someone who could. Doody would go to the funeral homes, making sure their hair was done exactly the way they liked it. She considered it to be one last gift to them. She loved living in Southern Idaho because she got to be near her sister, Peggy Black, who was her absolute best friend and confidant. She held all the memories of her sister dear to her heart.
Doody and her sister enjoyed shopping for their grandchildren, playing pinochle and visiting. After retirement she took up painting and also learned to play the piano. She cherished her family. She gave no nonsense advice to her children and grandchildren and believed it was foolish to ask for advice if you didn’t want to hear a truthful opinion. She was also known for having a sarcastic sense of humor, which she passed down to more than one family member.
Doody is survived by her children: Denise Haynes of Boise, Donna Durick (Aaron Bengtson) of Coeur d’Alene, Michael (Rhonda) Morfin of Elko, NV and Mark Morfin of Elko, NV; grandchildren: Jayme (Jenna) Haynes, Josh (Mandy) Haynes, T.J. (Keight) Haynes, Camie Durick (Joe Reddy), Ryan Durick, and Carlie Durick, whom she called “my old soul”; and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition, she was very close to her nieces and nephews: Annette (Brad) Charles, Brian (Nichol) Black, Terri Black; her brother-in-law, Glen Black; as well as several other nieces and nephews.
Doody was preceded in death by her parents, Ann and Bill McKeen, her nephew, Bruce Black and beloved sister, Peggy Black.
Although she will be missed dearly, it brings great comfort to know she is finally reunited with her sister and they are enjoying being together again in the presence of God.
A celebration of Doody’s life of will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday June 23, 2018, at Shoshone Park in Pinehurst. Everyone is welcome to come and share their memories of Doody. There will be a potluck following. Please bring a dish to share.
