KELLOGG — Sometimes you need to reinvent yourself to be successful, and that is exactly what the Silver Valley Farmers Market has done.

The first run of the now-reoccurring Thursday night event blew away any of the former Saturday morning editions of the market, as hundreds of people made their way through the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes path near the Historic Silver Valley Chamber of Commerce office in Kellogg.

Newly appointed HSVCC coordinator Mallory Phillips was more than pleased with the turnout of the season opening event.

“The first Silver Valley Farmers Market of the season went awesome,” she said. “We were thrilled that 18 vendors showed up to sell at the market. While working the Farmers Market booth, I was approached by a handful of people inquiring about becoming vendors. We are so grateful to all of the vendors and patrons that attended our first market.”

Prior to the event, 23 vendors had signed up to be part of the Farmers Market, so having 18 of them be able to be there on opening night was a big deal.

Missoula musician Tara Lynn Walrus kept people entertained as they enjoyed the local beer garden.

Walrus was just the first of many artists who will be playing the market each and every week.

As far as beer goes, the Farmers Market beer garden was easily the most popular part of the event, and will likely grow as more local breweries get involved.

“Wallace and Radio Brewing have both signed up for the season,” Phillips said. “We have reached out to North Idaho Brewing and hope to see them attend future markets.”

Phillips estimates that 400 people attended the opening event last Thursday, and she believes that the market will only continue to grow.

“Our hope is that the Silver Valley Farmers Market will become a community event that people look forward to each week,” Phillips said.

The Silver Valley Farmers Market runs from 5-8 p.m. every Thursday between now and October at the HSVCC office in Kellogg.
