Family transported to hospital following semi-truck collision near Cataldo
COEUR d’ALENE – Idaho State Police reports that on June 14, just after midnight, Troopers investigated an injury crash near Cataldo, Idaho on Interstate-90 involving a parked vehicle and a semi-trailer truck.
Melissa K. Matuu, 29, of Cheyenne, Wyo. was traveling westbound on I90 near milepost 36 in a white 2014 Toyota Tundra when she struck an elk that crossed into the path of the vehicle. Matuu’s vehicle was disabled and came to stop in the right-hand lane of travel.
Passenger Seth Matuu, 32, also of Cheyenne, Wyo. got out of the vehicle and was attempting to get three young children out of the vehicle when a semi-truck rear ended them.
The Tundra was push off the roadway, onto the right shoulder and down an embankment. The 2016 Volvo semi-tractor driven by Sergey I. Gud, 33, of Federal Way, Wash. went off the left shoulder and came to a stop in the median.
The Matuu family were removing seat belts and child restraints when the semi impacted them and as a result, all were transported to Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene. The severity of their injuries has not been released.
Gud was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and was uninjured.
The roadway was partially blocked for approximately three hours.
