The city of Kellogg’s Sewer Rehabilitation and Replacement Project continues to advance, each day moving closer toward the finish line.

Phase III continues to move east on McKinley Avenue toward the uptown business district. Once there, parking will not be allowed along McKinley Avenue. Parking will be available in the various parking lots adjacent to the uptown area. People on foot will be able to move freely throughout town. Local businesses will remain open during construction and are eager to serve you. Please continue to support them. Work in the uptown area is expected to last two to three weeks.

Phase II north of I-90 continues to march eastward. Installation of mainline water will begin yet this week on Riverside Avenue from Cedar Street to Division Street. This will be followed by service work. Mainline sewer will be installed on Mullan Avenue from Hill Street to Division Street. Work will be underway by the time this article goes to press and is expected to last approximately three weeks.

On Mission Avenue mainline sewer work will also be underway from Hill Street moving toward Division. This effort is expected to take four weeks. Road work is scheduled for the area of Sunset and Caledonia in preparation for paving. Paving in this area and for the alley behind Sunnyside Drug is currently scheduled to start June 19. Depending on scheduling and the need to finish critical work, crews may be working on Saturday’s as the project moves forward.

Be safe. Obey road closure signs and drive carefully around and through construction zones. Watch out for pedestrians and especially young children and pets. Remember, operators of heavy equipment may have blind spots that make seeing vehicles and pedestrians difficult so give them plenty of room to maneuver. Please be patient with all that is going on and don’t be afraid to say thank you to those who are working hard under difficult conditions to make all of this happen.

Parents are asked to remind children to avoid active construction zones and not to play on material piles that are placed throughout the area.

When the Kellogg swimming pool opens for the 2018 summer season, access will again be free of charge while the sewer project is underway. With the major renovations around the pool and in the building our opening date has been pushed back. Final pool preparation and staffing for the summer season is currently being finalized and an opening date will be announced as soon as possible.

Anyone needing special assistance related to the project or who may have questions or concerns should contact Mr. Craig Lewis Superintendent of Public Works at 208-786-9131. On weekends, holidays or after work hours, you may contact Mr. Lewis by calling the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Dispatch at 208-556-1114 and ask that they contact him for you.
