Kellogg pool to open next week

KELLOGG — For those looking to beat the heat this summer, the city of Kellogg has some amazing news for you.
The Kellogg Public Swimming pool will be opening on Monday, June 18, and once again it will be free to the public this summer.
Historically the pool had always charged a dollar for a full day of swimming, but in light of the road construction that has been going on during the last few years around the city of Kellogg, city officials thought making the pool free for everyone to use would be the best course of action.
“With all of the construction we have going on, we thought giving the kids a place to be for free would benefit the whole community,” said city of Kellogg public works superintendent Craig Lewis. “Anyone who wants to come in, it’ll be free swimming for everybody.”
Safety issues were a key factor and the city saw this as a proactive attempt to help the construction companies minimize some of the usual worries that come with such a large scale project like the Kellogg Sewer Project.
“The city decided to again absorb the cost for the year,” Lewis said. “We are going to be doing this road construction for a few more years, so we are looking for solutions to help the public out. We want people to know that we are trying to help out however we can and that the public will have a fun and safe place to be during the construction.”
City officials were also able to secure some grant funding through the Americans with Disabilities Act to make several upgrades to the pool facilities.
The pool will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
The pool will still be available to rent as well, and lap swimming will begin later in the season.
Swimming lessons are scheduled to begin later this summer and will cost $20 per swimmer.
