Work continues on the City of Kellogg’s Sewer Rehabilitation and Replacement Project.

Good progress is being made each day as crews continue to do what they do. A lot of people are working very hard to keep things moving along as smoothly as possible and as quickly as possible.

Phase III is finishing its mainline sewer work uptown and will likely be done by the time this article appears in the print edition of the paper. Mainline sewer work will then move to Flume Street. Road work has begun on McKinley Ave from Mountain Health Care moving east towards Hill St.

A second sewer crew will begin work in the area of W Park Ave and Teddy Ave next week. Work is now being planned to replace the roadway on Alhambra Rd. leading to the cemetery. Work will be coordinated with funeral services and the project is expected to move quickly. It should be completed in the next two to three weeks. A large pave out for both sewer work and Alhambra is planned for the end of July.

Work on Phase II is moving right along. Mainline sewer continues to be placed on Mission Avenue and Mullan Ave. Mainline placement will be followed with the connection of sewer services. Work to install mainline water and water services is scheduled to start on Riverside Ave. east of Hill St. very soon and may be done by the time this article appears in the print edition of the paper. This will be followed by road work to prepare the area for a large pave out scheduled for the end of July or the first week of August.

As always, please be safe. Obey road closure signs and drive carefully around and through active construction zones. Watch out for pedestrians and especially young children and pets. Remember, operators of heavy equipment may have blind spots that make it hard to see vehicles and pedestrians so give them plenty of room to maneuver. Please continue to be patient with all that is going on and don’t be afraid to say thank you to those who are working hard under difficult conditions to make all of this happen.

Parents are again being asked to remind children to avoid active construction zones and not to play on material piles placed throughout the area.

The Kellogg swimming pool is now open (as of Tuesday June 26) and will operate on a limited basis while staffing issues are resolved. We will try to have an update with a schedule for the coming weeks by the end of the day tomorrow. Admittance is free of charge while the sewer project is underway.

Anyone needing special assistance related to the project or who may have questions or concerns should contact Mr. Craig Lewis, Superintendent of Public Works at (208)786-9131. On weekends, holidays or after work hours you may contact Mr. Lewis by calling the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Dispatch at (208) 556-1114 and ask that they contact him for you.
