Part of the annual Idaho Statehood Day Parade turns down Cedar Street in Wallace last year.

With the Fourth of July holiday just a few days away, many of the local cities are gearing up for their respective celebrations.

In Wallace, they are once again prepping for their July 3, Idaho Statehood Day Parade, which has become the annual pre-holiday to the Independence Day celebrations.

Up until about three weeks ago, Kellogg was unsure of what would become of their Fourth of July celebration.

The annual Independence Day celebration was nearly canceled in Shoshone County’s largest city after several years of low participation and declining funding forced the Historic Silver Valley Chamber of Commerce to make the decision to not continue putting on the event.

Fortunately, Silver Mountain stepped up to secure funding and organize the event in conjunction with the HSVCC.

“The Fourth celebration has a long history in the Silver Valley and I believe it is an important part of our sense of pride and community spirit,” Silver Mountain general manager Jeff Colburn said. “We encourage people to come out and support it this year and for many years into the future.”

After weeks planning, the event is nearly upon us and appears to be in good shape given the last minute nature of the planning.

HSVCC director Mallory Phillips was complimentary of Silver Mountain’s hard work over the past few weeks and believes that they might have surpassed monetary efforts from previous years.

“We’ve gotten several new vendors and scheduled some different events in the last few days,” Phillips said. “The Chamber Board didn’t want to put on a sub-par event and that’s why they voted to not continue doing the event, but Silver Mountain has gotten in there and raised even more donations than last year, so this year’s fireworks show should be a good one.”

Wallace’s Idaho Statehood Day Parade begins at 5 p.m. and loops through downtown Wallace.

Kellogg’s Fourth of July schedule of events is as follows:

11:30 a.m. — Parade decorating and registration in the Silver Mountain parking lot

12:30 p.m. — The first Kellogg Fourth of July Kids and Pets parade

1:30 p.m. — Old fashioned games in Kellogg Park

2:30 p.m. — Soap Hockey Tournament

3:30 p.m. — Cannonball contest inside the Kellogg Public Swimming Pool

10 p.m. — Fireworks show.

The Kellogg Public Swimming Pool will be open from 1-4 p.m. and Kellogg City Park will have vendors open from 1-5 p.m. along with live music and a beer garden.
