Despite an unceremonious end to their season, the Wallace Miners did get a little positivity at the end of their season when Kimmie Krous, Jen Hayman, and Maggie Howard were named to the North Star League all-league team.

Krous and Hayman were the senior leaders of the team and routinely found themselves as the centerpieces on both offense and defense.

Howard, a junior made her mark for the Miners as a rebounding specialist and defensive anchor throughout the season.

“It feels good to be recognized,” Hayman said. “We had a really rough year and we didn’t really like how it ended. So this is pretty cool.”

The Miners scheduled themselves tough this season in order to be ready for their annual state play-in game, but unfortunately they ended up playing the eventual state runners up in Prairie.

Both Krous and Hayman thought their last matchup with Genesis Prep was the highpoint of their season.

“Everyone played really well that night,” Hayman said.

“We seemed to play well against them, like they brought out the best in us,” Krous said. “I’m not sure what it was.”

Connecting as a team can be vital to a team’s success, and finding that connection was something the Miners struggled with all season.

“We didn’t connect very well,” Krous said.

“We didn’t flow well all season long,” Hayman said. “We would have games where we played really well and then the next game we would be completely out of sync.”

Howard, who was out sick at the time of the interview, was unable to give her comments, but her teammates made sure that she got her credit.

“Maggie works so hard and it’s going to be important for her to keep that up next year,” Hayman said.

“I think she looked a lot more comfortable out there this year,” Krous said. “And if she and some of the other girls like Megan (Morin) can get more comfortable they should do well next season.”
