| March 29, 2018 1:13 PM

Christiane Margret Dunlap of Osburn, passed away March 27, 2018 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. A memorial service was held at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene on March 30, 2018 with Pastor Dan Forsgren officiating.

Christiane, or Chris as she was known to family and friends, was born in Aue, Germany to Gerhard and Margarete Dittrich on August 12, 1935. After escaping from Soviet controlled Germany at the end of World War II with her family, Chris attended an all-girls gymnasium (high school) in Erlangen and graduated in 1954. Chris worked as a translator for a Nuremberg toy company, then enjoyed a successful career as a travel agent for American Express, which allowed her to travel the world.

Chris met the love of her life, a young American soldier by the name of Bob Dunlap, on a tour of Paris that she led. After a six year courtship, Chris married Bob in Vach, Bavaria, on January 3, 1964. She then moved with Bob to America to start the next chapter of her life. Chris raised two children with Bob, Gerhard and Thomas, and lived in California, England, Ohio, Alaska, and finally Idaho when Bob retired in 1995.

Upon retirement, Chris continued her love of travel and adventure. Chris and Bob toured the country in a GMC motorhome that they lovingly restored. They became active members of the GMC Cascaders, even hosting a rally for the club in Wallace. Besides travel, Chris enjoyed politics, hiking, antiquing, and gardening.

Above all, Chris was devoted to her family. She was always supportive of them, making personal sacrifices so they could pursue their dreams. Chris took immense pride in watching her family achieve happiness and success in their personal and professional lives. Chris was a uniquely selfless, loving child of God who only thought of others.

Chris is preceded in death by her parents, Gerhard and Margarete, and her sister Ulrike.

Our dear loving wife, mother and grandmother is survived by her husband Bob of Osburn; son Gerhard (Kim) Dunlap; son Thomas (Lisa) Dunlap; and grandchildren Alexis Dunlap, Robby Dunlap, and David Dunlap.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to our family, friends, and the staff of Hospice of North Idaho for their support and comfort during Chris’ final days. The family asks that in lieu of flowers any donations are made in Chris’ remembrance to Hospice of North Idaho, Schneidmiller House, 2290 W. Prairie Ave., Coeur d’ Alene, ID 83815.

Yates Funeral Home is entrusted with final arrangements. Please visit Chris’ online memorial and sign her guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
