New store opens in Wallace

Wallace’s newest shopping experience is one that mixes fashion and function!

The Fox & The Hare Mountain Wear opened up last week, and was the brainchild of Luanne Wuerfel, who, upon moving to Wallace four years ago, thought that Wallace could use a place where nice outdoor clothing could be purchased.

“When we found Wallace, we saw the area as a mountain area with so much outdoor activity going on,” Wuerfel said. “Where we came from in New Mexico, my favorite shop to shop in was a small outdoor clothing place. I think it fits the area, and there was no real place to shop here for clothing unless you go to Coeur d’Alene or Missoula.”

Wuerfel, who also runs the wildly popular Blackboard Cafe with her husband, Rob, has 15 years of previous retail experience and that — mixed with the shopping atmosphere in Wallace — has her very confident in her new endeavor.

“I worked at high end resorts and did the buying for the golf shops there,” Wuerfel said. “I created a business plan four years ago, but we made establishing the restaurant our priority and kept it going until we decided that it was time.”

Selling high quality outdoor clothes, footwear, tents, sleeping bags, and even some canine apparel, The Fox & The Hare Mountain Wear is putting an emphasis on giving their customers the biggest bang for their buck.

“My business plan is definitely focused towards our locals,” Wuerfel said. “To stay solid and survive here, you have to cater to the local customers. It shouldn’t be taken lightly when people spend their hard earned money, I want my customers to be absolutely satisfied when they come here.”

Back to the concept of fashion and function, the shop offers a variety of clothing options, but they all seem to fit the motif of the Silver Valley.

“I have a dress here that you can put on and hike the Pulaski Trail and then come into town and have dinner and drinks in it,” Wuerfel said. “It’s not only fashion, but also function.”

Wuerfel is also offering locals a 15 percent discount based off that mind-set.

The Fox & The Hare Mountain Wear is located at 417 Sixth St. in Wallace and is open from 10 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. daily.
