Work on the city of Kellogg’s Sewer Rehabilitation and Replacement Project is now in full swing for the 2018 construction season.

Phase III was scheduled to begin working along the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes. However, due to high ground water in the area, crews were forced to move back to McKinley Avenue. Work along McKinley Avenue will continue to occur as the project moves east toward Hill Street. As it moves, the detour routes will be changed as necessary to move traffic through and around active construction zones.

As work moves closer to the intersection of Hill and McKinley rerouting and controlling traffic will get more difficult. I am asking for everyone’s patience and cooperation as we do our best to keep people safe and moving through the area as quickly as possible.

Work on Phase II north of I-90 in the Sunnyside Addition is well underway. Crews are moving east on Riverside Avenue, Mullan Avenue and Mission Avenue. They will continue to alternate back and forth between installing mainline sewer and water and connecting both water and sewer services. Roads are being restored as quickly as possible so that paving can occur sooner rather than later.

Knife River’s project manager would like to thank everyone living in these highly congested areas for all of their patience and understanding. Their cooperation and tolerance for all that is going on in their street is greatly appreciated.

Two sewer items remain to be completed in the area of Sunset, Caledonia and Howard Street. As soon as the sewer work is done, the roads in this area will be prepared for paving.

Please be safe. Obey road closure signs and drive carefully around and through construction zones. Watch out for pedestrians and especially young children and pets. Remember, operators of heavy equipment may have blind spots that make seeing vehicles and pedestrians difficult so give them lots of room to maneuver. Please be patient with all that is going on and don’t be afraid to thank workers for all of their hard work.

Parents are asked to remind their children to avoid active construction zones and to not play on material piles that are placed throughout the neighborhood.

When the Kellogg swimming pool opens for the 2018 summer season, access will be free of charge while the sewer project is underway.

Anyone needing special assistance related to the project or who may have questions or concerns should contact Mr. Craig Lewis, Superintendent of Public Works at 208-786-9131. On weekends, holidays or after work hours you may contact Mr. Lewis by calling the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Dispatch at 208-556-1114 and ask that they contact him for you.
