KELLOGG –– Kellogg High School and their consumer science and leadership departments will be hosting a Thanksgiving dinner for KHS students and all local first responders.

The school is using the event to create an aura of thankfulness throughout the school, as well as show appreciation and thanks to the men and women who risk their lives daily for the general population.

The dinner will be followed by a movie screening to give everyone a chance to enjoy each other’s company.

New consumer science teacher Tenaya Hergert is putting the students cooking and creativity to the test as they prepare for the event.

“In the week leading up to the event, students throughout the school are creating paper leaves, turkeys, and helping hands describing what they are thankful for. We will use those to decorate for the event,” Hergert said. “Students in both the nutrition class and leadership class will team up to cook classic dishes.”

Hergert and the Leadership team hopes that the event is well received and that it cultivates a family-like atmosphere at Kellogg High School.

“Our hope is that this event will be a fun way for the students to come together and celebrate a seasonal favorite and create bonds outside the classroom,” Hergert said. “It will also be a great opportunity for those students who don't get to have a big family dinner at home. We hope to instill the idea that our student body is a family too.”

Events like this are no small or easy task and they are hoping the local community will help out with this event and donate some of the ingredients they need for the cooking.

Items such as yams, sweet potatoes, potatoes, french green beans, dried onions, turkeys, pie filling items, marshmallows, and so forth.

Donation can be dropped off on Monday, November 12,

All first responders, as well as active or retired military are invited to join the students for the dinner on November 14, at 6:30 p.m at Kellogg High School.
