The remaining days are flying by for the 2018 construction season and the City of Kellogg’s Sewer Rehabilitation and Replacement Project. Crews are working hard on both Phase 2 and Phase 3 to get as much pipe in the ground as possible before Mother Nature sends them packing.

By now you know where crews are working if they are in your area, and that they are constantly on the move, so I am not going to go into details that will change before this article appears in the paper.

I will note that from here on out where and when they work is weather dependent. As pipe work winds down, road crews will be working to prepare all remaining dirt roads for the winter months. These same roads will be monitored over the winter and maintained as well as possible until crews return next spring to get them ready for paving.

Workers will also continue to replace sidewalks and other areas where concrete was removed by the sewer project. Until that work is completed, I am asking everyone to please be careful as you move through active construction zones. This is especially important for pedestrians, watch out for tripping hazards and avoid these areas whenever possible.

This has been a very busy construction season and a great deal of work has been done. I want to thank all of you for your patience and cooperation over the past few months. I also want to thank all of the workers who have made it happen. Your patience and assistance provided to local residents is greatly appreciated.

As always, please be safe. Watch out for children headed to and returning home from school, especially in the late afternoon when the neighborhoods begin to go dark. Obey road closure signs and drive carefully around and through active construction zones.

Remember, operators of heavy equipment may have blind spots that make it hard to see vehicles and pedestrians so give them plenty of room to maneuver. Please be patient with all that is going on and don’t be afraid to say thank you to those who are working hard on your behalf.

Parents, please remind your children to avoid active construction areas and to not play on material piles placed throughout town.
