Two arrests made in heroin trafficking case

POST FALLS — Two Shoshone County men were arrested in a heroin trafficking case during a traffic stop on Interstate 90 at Post Falls last week.

Raemon Sauer, 29, and passenger Deven Meyers, 27, were booked into the Kootenai County Jail on felony drug charges after being stopped on westbound I-90 at milepost 2 for an equipment violation on a car that Sauer was driving Wednesday night.

“Five grams of black tar heroin, which is about 50 dosage units, was seized,” said Idaho State Police Capt. John Kempf.

Drug paraphernalia, including scales, and a stolen gun from the Spokane area were also reportedly found.

Both suspects were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, while Sauer also faces a theft charge. They were arrested without incident.

Meyers remained in the jail Monday on a $15,000 bond. He is also being held on a parole violation warrant.

Sauer’s bond was set at $1,500 on Friday before he posted bond.

Preliminary hearings for both suspects have been set for Dec. 6.

A second passenger was not arrested.

Kempf said that while heroin has dominated headlines nationwide due to the opioid epidemic and overdose deaths, local police have seen an increase in methamphetamine cases.

“The purity of meth remains 90 to 99 percent and the price the past two years has decreased significantly,” he said. “We are aware of the opioid and overdose crisis, but meth has been a bigger problem because we are seeing more of it.”
