There's nothing sexier than fighting cancer!

WALLACE — It wouldn’t be October in Shoshone County without the annual Tata’s Party and the 2018 edition of the famous cancer fundraiser may have been the best one yet.
Aubrey Stovern has been involved with the fundraiser every year of its seven-year run. She has proudly watched the event grow into its present form, and is particularly impressed by the response from her Shoshone County neighbors.
“It was pretty amazing to see a community come together for a cause bigger than ourselves,” Stovern said. “Our first years were just a bunch of girlfriends getting together, drinking wine and bidding on 20 bras — this was our biggest year by far with more than 80 people at The Wallace Inn.”
The unique fundraiser is centered around an auction where attendees can bid on customized and themed bras, as well as many other fun items.
As Stovern’s group has grown, so has the event. With each member of the group being affected by cancer in one way or another, it has become a very personal event.
“The first year was because the Desperate Diva and I were work neighbors and she had lost her sister to cancer that summer,” she said. “When October came around, I knew we needed to do something for her. Now our driving force is to help our community.”
Whether it was visiting with the folks who donated auction items, the auction itself, meeting new people at the event or just the entire party atmosphere — Stovern felt the event was a success.
With any successful event, there is always a mastermind behind it. Stovern graciously gave credit to her committee members Bonnie Slater. April Angle and Kelsey Schultz.
“My girls do an amazing job with planning and executing to make things happen,” she said. “I couldn't get anything done without them.”
All of the proceeds from the event go right back into the community — as they are donated to the Shoshone Cancer Support Corp. in Kellogg, who uses the funds to help cover gas and prescription costs for Silver Valley residents who are battling cancer.
