Kellogg mayor's corner

| October 12, 2018 1:14 PM

Work continues on the city of Kellogg’s Sewer Rehabilitation and Replacement Project. Crews will continue to move forward with pipe work and clean-up until the weather forces shutdown of the 2018 construction season.

The next pave out for Phase III started on Oct. 12 and, weather permitting, should be done on Hill Street, the basketball courts near Teeters Field, Railroad Avenue and part of Teddy Avenue by the time this article appears in the paper. Pipe crews will now move back to finish work along the Rails to Trails then on to lower Third Street, through the Green Belt into Railroad Avenue and on to Legion Avenue. Paving in these areas will be weather-dependent and may have to be postponed until spring.

Work on Phase II north of I-90 continues as well. Paving on Mission Avenue from Hill Street east to Division Street and the area of Howard Street and Elder Avenue west of Hill Street is currently being scheduled and will be completed as soon as possible. Pipe crews will now be working to install a sewer main behind Les Schwab Tire and in the alleyway off Division Street near Stovern Supply Company. They will then proceed east on Riverside Avenue installing water line. Crews will continue to install water line in the area of Hill Street, North Avenue and Vergobbi Avenue. Work in this area will last for the next couple of weeks. Any additional paving will be weather dependent.

As always, please be safe. Watch out for children headed for school. Please obey road closure signs and drive carefully around and through active construction zones. Watch out for pedestrians and especially young children and pets. Remember, operators of heavy equipment may have blind spots that make it hard to see vehicles and pedestrians, so give them plenty of room to maneuver. Please be patient with all that is going on and don’t be afraid to say thank you to those who are working hard on your behalf.

Parents, please remind your children to avoid active construction areas and to not play on material piles placed throughout town.

Anyone needing special assistance with the sewer project or who may have questions or concerns should contact Mr. Craig Lewis, superintendent of Public Works at 208-786-9131. On weekends, holidays or after work hours, you may contact Mr. Lewis by calling the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Dispatch at 208-556-1114 and ask that they contact him for you.
