Football
MULLAN — The Mullan Tigers cemented themselves as the most exciting team to watch in Shoshone County last week as they blitzed the Kootenai Warriors to run away with a 48-12 win over their 1A Division II rivals.
The game played out at an even pace through the first half, with Mullan finding the endzone twice, but Kootenai not surrendering much yardage.
But then the third quarter happened and Mullan turned a 14-0 advantage into a 40-0 ball game before the Warriors could finally strike.
That was just the third quarter.
The Tigers would go on to coast to victory.
Freshman quarterback Luke Trogden continued to show why he may be the best freshman football player in the region as he accounted for five Mullan touchdowns, including a nifty short toss to his cousin Riley, who finished it off with a 50-yard score.
Skye Gallway, Mullan’s all-state receiver from last year, has been relegated to defensive line as he has been working his way back from an ankle sprain.
Coach Stetson Spooner was thrilled with his team’s performance and praised his young signal caller for continuing his string of strong play.
“Kootenai was a talented team and big test for our defense and they showed up big time,” Spooner said. “Our offense found its stride after a slow start, which can happen with a freshman quarterback against a good opponent like Kootenai.”
Mullan will have some time off before their final game at home against Lewis County at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27.

No results were received for Wallace’s matches with Superior or Mullan.
Wallace d. Lakeside
PLUMMER — In a back-and-forth match, the visiting Miners had the momentum last in a 25-13, 14-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-11 victory over the Knights in North Star League play on Oct. 11 at Ron Miller Court.
While this game didn’t impact the Miners’ postseason it did have some effects on Mullan. Lakeside will be the third seed at the 1A Division II District 1 tournament at Clark Fork on Oct. 20.
Top seeded Clark Fork will play at 10 a.m. against the winner of a play-in match between Mullan and Kootenai earlier in the week.
Lakeside will face No. 2 seed Genesis Prep in the next match, and the two winners will square off in the next match for the district title and the lone berth to state.
Since Clark Fork went undefeated in the league, the Wampus Cats will have to be beaten twice that day to be eliminated.
Wallace, which finished second in the North Star League at 7-3, advances to play in the 1A Division I District 1 tournament.

WALLACE — The Miners gave up 56 points in the first half of their Oct. 12 game and asked the visitors from Lapwai if they could call it night.
The forfeit dropped the Miners to 1-6 on the season.
The Miners will be on the road in Genesee this week.

Timberlake d. Kellogg
KELLOGG — Ashlyn Mallet and Brooke Jessen had seven kills each as the Timberlake Tigers swept the Kellogg Wildcats 25-17, 25-17, 25-16 on senior night in Intermountain League play on Tuesday night, Oct. 9, at Andrews Gymnasium.
The Wildcats locked up the third seed in the IML and took on Priest River last night at Timberlake High School.

KELLOGG — The Tigers improved to 5-2, 2-0 in the Intermountain League with a win over the Wildcats at Teeters Field. Timberlake can wrap up the league title with a win next Friday at home against Bonners Ferry.
The Wildcats could not stop Timberlake’s rushing attack in a game that felt an awful lot like revenge for the Wildcats’ win over the Tigers the year before.
Kellogg is 2-5, 1-1 and travels to Priest River next Friday for a shot at the second seed out of the IML and a 3A playoff berth.
