Christian Academy looking for local support

KELLOGG — The Silver Valley Christian Academy offers Shoshone County families a different perspective from what the local school districts offer, but that comes with a price, one usually footed solely by the students, their families and the staff itself.

Currently in the midst of their popular calzone fundraiser, the school is always looking for ways to raise funds that help them provide an enriching learning experience for their students.

“We are raising money to help with our general operations,” said SVCA principal Shelby Brandi. “As a school we are really in a great position. We have 12 families and 17 students ranging from our 4-K (preschool) class to our accredited 12th grade class.”

The school switched buildings over the summer as they moved from the American Lutheran Church in Kellogg back into their former home at Mountain View Congregational Church, which has provided them with extra space and room to grow, as well as move back into the philanthropic mind-set they had had when they occupied the space prior.

“We are so blessed to be back at Mountain View Congregational Church. They have generously given us the educational space we need and the teachers and students just love it here,” Brandi said. “With our proximity to Cascadia, we are able to visit the residents there weekly and that has always been a special part of SVCA's ministry.”

With all of that positivity, though, comes a hefty financial burden, which is where the Friends of the Academy and their many fundraisers come into play.

“The Lord is really blessing our academy. However, as a nonprofit, there is always a need for fundraisers,” Brandi said. “The Friends of the Academy are a great group of volunteers who truly believe in the mission here. Those volunteers are why our pasty sale was so successful last March and they are the gears and hearts behind this fundraiser too.”

The calzone sale only runs through Sunday, but there are many other fundraising opportunities for people to help support the school.

“I believe the FOA plans to do the pasties again in March. Our students have a competition in the winter called Change Wars, where they collect change for a point system and the most positive point team wins,” Brandi said. “The funds earned in Change Wars goes toward the field trips we traditionally have in the spring. Currently, those are all the fundraisers we have on the calendar.”
