The end of the 2018 construction season is near and work on the City of Kellogg’s Sewer Rehabilitation and Replacement Project is beginning to wind down for the year. Work is continuing on both Phase 2 (Sunnyside Area) and Phase 3 (South of I-90) until the weather forces final shut-down. Pipe and road crews working in both phases are busy completing as much pipe work as possible.

Because crews are moving quickly and changing locations often I will not attempt to predict where they will be when you read this. Work on Phase 2 will continue in the areas currently under construction North of Mission Ave and East of Division. Work on Phase 3 is more scattered and continues along the Rails to Trails, Legion Ave, McKinley Ave, Teddy Ave and W Park.

While one additional pave out is tentatively planned in Phase 3 it will be weather dependent and could easily be postponed until the 2019 season. No additional paving is planned for this year in Phase 2. Road crews in both areas will be working to grade and pack the unpaved roads in preparation for the winter months.

Cleanup and restoring the sidewalks, driveway approaches and road shoulders prior to winter shutdown is a high priority at this time.

We lose a few more minutes of daylight every day, so please watch out for children headed to and from school. Please obey road closure signs and drive carefully around and through active construction zones. Watch out for pedestrians, especially young children and pets.

Remember, operators of heavy equipment may have blind spots that make it hard to see vehicles and pedestrians so give them plenty of room to maneuver. Please be patient with all that is going on and don’t be afraid to say thank you to those who are working hard on your behalf.

Parents, please remind your children to avoid active construction areas and to not play on material piles placed throughout town.

Anyone needing special assistance with the sewer project or who may have questions or concerns should contact Mr. Craig Lewis, Superintendent of public Works at (208) 786-9131.

On weekends, holidays or after works hours you may contact Mr. Lewis by calling the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Dispatch at (208) 556-1114 and ask that they contact him for you.
