Vicki D. Hill-Stokke, 81

Vicki D. Hill-Stokke, 81 of La Grande, died August 29 at a local care facility from complications from Alzheimer’s. A graveside service will be held Saturday, Sept. 8th, 10am at Grandeview Cemetery followed by a reception at George & Vanessa’s residence, 62097 Chandler Loop, La Grande, OR.

Vicki was born June 11, 1937 in Kellogg, ID to Maxine and Otto Hill. She graduated Kellogg High School in 1955. In March of 1956, she married Howard G. Schultz. They had two daughters Vanessa and Sharon. In 1965 they moved to Spokane Valley. She and Howard divorced in 1979. In April of 1980 she married Donald Stokke. Her and Don moved to La Grande, OR in 1997 to be with her daughters and grandchildren.

Vicki was a stay at home mom while her girls were growing up. Then she worked for several years as a medical receptionist. She had several interests over the years but her favorite hobby was antiquing. She always joked that this was her business, buying and selling glassware. She loved playing bridge and was an avid reader. She loved to go camping with family and friends. Watching her children and grandchildren play and spending time with them brought her great joy. Her and Don spent many years traveling to La Grande and Michigan to visit their kids and grandkids. Bowling was the top of her list for activities and she was always bowling both in league and tournaments. Bowling is how she met her husband Don. After moving to La Grande, she was one of the first to join the women’s bowling leagues in La Grande’s new bowling alley where she spent several years bowling until the bowling alley closed. When Vanessa would drive her by La Grande’s new upcoming bowling alley in construction, she would smile. She was a true animal lover and never lived without having a dog in her life. Her favorite breed of dog was a corgi and she had 3 of them over the years. If you visit her and Don’s grave stone, it has a corgi on it.

She is survived by her daughters, Vanessa Hagedorn (George) of La Grande, and Sharon Schultz of Coeur D’Alene Idaho; brother, Spike Hill (Toni) of Kellogg, Idaho; 4 grandchildren, Dr. Brad Hagedorn, Daniel Hagedorn, Dr. Lindsay Tice and Paige Waldrop and their spouses. She was been blessed with 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Don Stokke who passed away Jan. 2004; parents, Maxine and Otto Hill and her Aunt and close friend Ruthie Napier.
