KELLOGG — Law enforcement will be keeping a closer eye on Kellogg School District buildings for a little while after a written bomb threat was found at Kellogg High School last week.

In a joint news release from KSD and the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, it was reported that SCSO was “investigating a threat, which law enforcement officials believe to be a non-credible threat, at Kellogg High School.”

The release also stated that while the threat appears to be an empty one, an increased law enforcement presence will be on hand prior to and on Monday, April 8.

“Although this unknown, written bomb threat appears to be a non-credible threat we believe it is worthy of all safety precautions,” the release read. “Keeping our students, staff, and community safe is of utmost importance to the Kellogg School District and local law enforcement agencies.”

A source inside KHS told the News-Press that the threat was found in a bathroom at KHS written on a note that said, “will be a bomb 4/8/19” and under it in parenthesis “in school.”

In a separate interview with KSD Superintendent Nancy Larsen, she confirmed that a date was included in the threat, which allows officials to prepare and step up security on and around that day.

As for the specifics of the increased security, Larsen could not share the details and procedures for situations such as this, but she did stress that all of the schools will have an increased police presence with a special emphasis on the high school.

The procedures, in compliance with the KSD’s policies concerning threats and lockdown protocol, are not made public so possible perpetrators remain ignorant of the school’s plans.

Students in the KSD will return from spring break on Monday.

SCSO declined to answer questions regarding the on going investigation, so it is unknown if there are any suspects at this time.

The News-Press will continue to follow this story as it develops.
