WALLACE — After a two-year sabbatical, the High Mountain ATV Jamboree is coming back to Wallace.

The event had become a regular staple for local riders and as a tourist attraction, but had a few bumpy years beginning in 2015, when the event was canceled just two weeks prior due to the fires raging in forests north of Murray.

The jamboree rebounded well in 2016, bringing in more than 200 participants, but then in 2017 and 2018 the event went away.

This year, organizers hope to restore the event to its former glory and prestige among the regional and national ATV and UTV clubs.

“We had been the third longest running jamboree in the country prior to 2017,” said High Mountain ATV club member Jim Shields. “We’ve been profiled in Dirt Wheels Magazine and we were one of the most popular destinations for riders in the country.”

The event is not only fun for those on the trails riding, but can also be a lucrative one for local businesses.

Running all weeklong, that means local gas stations, grocers, retailers, and tourist-oriented type businesses should see a sizeable spike in activity according to event organizers.

"We think we'll have anywhere from 100 to 200 riders this year," Shields said. "We'll have a more clear picture as preregistrations come in. Usually we

This year’s event will also likely see an uptick in UTV use as opposed to the previously more popular single-rider four-wheeler style ATV.

“UTV sales are leading ATVs in sales almost eight to one,” Shields said. “It’s one machine and you can put your whole family on it.”

The High Mountain ATV Jamboree is scheduled for July 23-27.

While the club is still clearing hurdles to get the event ready, they are accepting registrations now.
