Patrick ‘Pat’ Dean O’Brien, 77

Patrick “Pat” Dean O’Brien, 77, of Smelterville Idaho, passed away Aug. 3, 2019, in Post Falls, Idaho. Pat was born May 24, 1942, in Santa Maria, Calif. Pat was the son of Robert O’Brien and Opal (Sides) O’Brien.

Pat grew up in Southern California where he attended and graduated from Escondido High School. After graduation, Pat joined the United States Army. He was honorably discharged and moved to Old Town, Idaho, for a few years. He then moved to Wyoming and was employed in the oil fields. Pat worked in the oil fields for many years, he was a hard worker who earned the respect of others. He was a tool pusher for the Chase Rig Three and at times was a driller. He was also a superintendent for Loffland Drilling. When the oil fields slowed down, Pat started driving a truck and moved to Washington state. From there he retired and went back to Wyoming for a while. He then moved to North Idaho and lived in the Silver Valley for more than 20 years.

Pat had many interests and hobbies over the years — he loved to hunt, fish, ride motorcycles and used to race circle track cars. He also played on the pool leagues in the Silver Valley for many years. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pat is survived by his three children; his son, Darin (Tiny) O’Brien of Fort Bridger, Wyo., daughter Tawnya (Leon) Heinrich of Kingston, Idaho, and Tim (Sheri) O’Brien of Page, Idaho. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and two brothers, Robert (Mary) O’Brien of Santa Maria and Charles Rutherford of Mexico. Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Opal; and his brother, Lester O’Brien.

A celebration of Pat’s life will be held from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, at Timbers Road House in Cataldo, Idaho. This will be a potluck and held outside. The family hopes you will join them in reminiscing and celebrating Pat’s life.
