New Wallace City Council member jumps right in

WALLACE — There’s a new face helping make the decisions for the city of Wallace.

Michele Bisconer was recently appointed to the City Council by Wallace Mayor Lynn Mogensen after Tommy Hayes stepped down from his seat earlier this year.

Bisconer, a newer face in the Wallace community moved into the area after spending years vacationing in the area.

“I just love it here,” Bisconer said. “I love the history of it all.”

Despite having no real formal experience with local governments outside attending meetings as an informed citizen, Bisconer has stepped into her spot eager to work for her fellow residents of Wallace.

“So far I really like it,” Bisconer said. “I don’t have or own a business, I don’t have any personal agenda at all. I’ve also known people and made relationships with people here for the last decade despite only living here for two years.”

Coming from the data industry, Bisconer believes her biggest strength for the role of City Council is that she has a plethora of time as a retiree.

Currently Bisconer is the Wallace council member tasked with keeping an eye on the city’s streets.

Bisconer’s first real project since her May appointment was to examine and potentially update Wallace’s Peddlers and Solicitors Ordinance, primarily as applies to businesses such as food trucks.

Her assignment saw her going from door to door throughout the city distributing a survey to the residents (those results will be announced later).

That experience really allowed her to make a lot of face-to-face connections with her newly acquired constituents.

While she may have been appointed to her current seat, that seat is up for election this November and Bisconer is planning on running to retain her seat.

“I’m gonna run,” Bisconer said. “It’s exciting, but it’s also a little scary. I hope that I’ll be able to continue serving the people here in Wallace who have made me feel so welcome. It’s been a great adventure so far and I hope to keep going.”
