Shoshone News-Press mobile app now available

OSBURN — The Shoshone New-Press is excited to announce that we are now offering our readers the option to view the news they want through a brand new mobile application.

Since 1985, we have provided the tried and tested print edition to those who enjoy the familiar feeling of a physical product. In 2017, we introduced our new website and drastically increased our social media presence for those who enjoy the convenience of a digital product. Then in early July of this year, we continued to diversify our mediums by introducing our podcast, SNP NOW, for those who prefer to get their news in audio form.

Now as of Monday, the Shoshone News-Press has made strides once again to modernize by creating a mobile application that can be found and downloaded for free from both Apple and Android application libraries.

For those who check out the SNP website using a desktop computer (PC or Mac), everything will stay exactly as it is. For those who utilize a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet though, the Shoshone New-Press application gives you a new and convenient way to access our content.

The new app provides users with all the same services and options of the website, but presents it in a format that is friendly to your mobile device.

New features only found on the app include the ability to customize your viewing experience in the settings tab and bookmark articles you may want to save for later in the saved tab.

In addition to having all the categories already on the SNP website, the side pop-out menu on the app also includes a “Submit News/Photos” option — allowing anyone send in breaking news to the SNP newsroom at the touch of a button.

Speaking of breaking news, having the app downloaded on your device gives the SNP editorial team the option of sending you push notifications to ensure that you know about any developing/urgent news as soon as we do (these notifications can be turned off in the settings tab).

Stories that are uploaded to the SNP website are simultaneously posted to the application, leaving no lag time from product to product.

In the future, the SNP plans to have the SNP NOW podcast available on the app for even easier listening/downloading opportunity.

“I’m thrilled that we can now offer an easier method for mobile users to read our content,” said SNP Publisher Keri Alexander. “While our print audience remains strong, our digital audience continues to grow exponentially. Eighty-one percent of Americans own a smartphone and it’s exciting that we’re able to offer a mobile application to help our readers easily access all of our content any time and any place with their smartphone! Times are changing, even here in the Silver Valley, and I think our loyal readers will enjoy the bells and whistles of the app and I’m hopeful that we will inspire new readers to give it a try.”

The Shoshone News-Press application can be found by simply searching our name in whatever application library you use.
