Speedy duo ready to lead Mullan

MULLAN — Can we just get to Friday already!

Mullan’s dynamic duo of Skye Gallaway and Ian Farris aren’t just the two most heralded players on the Mullan Tigers, but also two of the best 1A Division II football players in the state.

Under the guidance of coach Stetson Spooner, these two have brought Mullan back to a level that they haven’t been at in more than a decade.

“These two guys just work so hard,” Spooner said. “They really dictate the way practices go and their intensity really brings the team up.”

Having an all-state wide receiver and an all-state defensive back makes for interesting matchup as Farris has earned a reputation as a lockdown corner who only gave up one scoring pass last season (a 2-point conversion), and Gallaway who may be the perfect offensive high school football player.

A scary blend of muscle and speed, Gallaway is a wrecking ball when someone is in his way and then a cheetah when he gets into the open field.

“These guys want to win more than anything,” Spooner said. “You can tell by the way that they work, both with and against one another. It brings the rest of our guys up to a higher level.”

Both of these guys have the chance to not only once again find themselves named as all-staters, but also find their way into some serious college offers as well.

“We really showed out well at camp and these two guys were a big part of that,” Spooner said. “We had several of the coaches at Montana Tech Camp that were going out of their way to watch us.”

Mullan’s biggest game of the season is this week as they lock up with Clark Fork at John Drager Field this Friday afternoon, and while most players look forward to their first game as a break from the monotony of practice, this game could decide the fate of their season.

“We are excited to get back on the field with them,” Gallaway said. “They got us last year and I think we are all looking forward to playing them.”

Spooner is excited to see how far his team has come from last year’s 26-point loss to the Wampus Cats.

“They are always well coached and they play tough on every down,” Spooner said. “They will be ready to go, but so will we.”

Mullan and Clark Fork kick off on Friday at 3:30 p.m. in Mullan.
