Stolen holiday decor recovered
WALLACE — On Friday, the Wallace Chamber of Commerce reported that some of their prized Christmas decorations had vanished from their home near the Hi-Co Exxon Gas Station and the Wallace Public Library.
The festive decorations are part of what makes Christmas in Wallace so much fun and in true Grinch-like fashion, someone actually tried to steal part of their Christmas celebration.
Holly Messick, who helped set up Wallace’s Christmas decorations, sent a personal message to the Chamber to alert them of the theft.
"We had four blow molds stolen tonight,” Messick wrote. “Two Santas from the gas station. And a soldier and a Santa from the library.”
But it would seem that the Scrooge in question felt a twinge of guilt as he absconded with the blow molds.
After reporting that the blow molds had been stolen, the decorations were found in a ditch between Wallace and Osburn on Sunday morning.
The Chamber’s Facebook post announcing both the theft and the recovery went Silver Valley viral, which probably led to the thief abandoning them.
Wallace is in the midst of their annual Retro Christmas Celebration, which means all eyes are on the decorations and for volunteer Messick, the decorations being found really cemented her faith her fellow Silver Valley residents.
But beware, there were other decorations recovered that were separate from those taken from Wallace.
“They are now back at their posts,” Messick said of the decorations. “We really appreciate this amazing community. There were additional Christmas decorations found with the blow molds. If anyone is missing them, contact the police to identify.”
Despite the decorations being found, the party responsible is still on multiple naughty lists, including the one belonging to the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone who has any information should contact them at 208-556-1114.
