Time for transfer station sticker renewal

KELLOGG — It’s that time again Shoshone County residents!

Those who wish to use the Shoshone County Transfer Station outside Kellogg need to make sure that they update and renew their stickers.

After the Shoshone Board of County Commissioners approved the implementation of the new sticker program last year, there were a few hiccups getting it going. Headed into year two of the program though, it seems that the kinks have been worked out.

In a notice sent out to residents prior to the program’s beginning, the BOCC made sure that customers had an understanding as to what the sticker program entailed — which hasn’t been changed.

“The purpose of this program is to readily identify Shoshone County Solid Waste customers and allow them access to the Solid Waste System,” the notice read. “The windshield sticker allows the customer to dispose of waste at the transfer station and the rural sites.”

Shannon Atkins, the office manager at the transfer station, wants customers to know that there will be no real changes for customers and that renters would need to get permission from their landlords before they could have a sticker.

“There is no cost increase, and we are issuing two stickers per parcel,” Atkins said. “We will not be issuing the stickers to renters without homeowners approval.”

Stickers are for residential customers only, not commercial.

Atkins also stressed that the sticker program doesn’t affect regular garbage pickup.

“Not having a sticker does not mean that your garbage service will be stopped,” Atkins said. “A sticker is only needed for people that utilize the county transfer station.”

Stickers are to be picked up at the Shoshone County Transfer Station not at the Shoshone County Courthouse.

The Shoshone County Transfer Station is located at 52619 Silver Valley Road, near Kellogg.
