Tobacco use and the Silver Valley youth

| February 11, 2019 4:01 PM

There has been an increase in the under age use of tobacco products here in the Silver Valley.

These tobacco products are being used at schools during lunch, before school and after school.

There are certain gas stations and other stores that do not check a person’s ID if they look like they are 18 or above, or in some cases they just do not check their ID.

This is an increasing issue that is taking hold of the young people in our community. When students see other students doing something or using tobacco products they think it is “cool,” or they think that it will help them to fit in.

There is nothing that can be done to prevent students at the age of 18 from using tobacco products, but there needs to be something done to try and prevent the under age use of these products.

This problem has switched from tobacco products to students using vapes. This new issue has gotten worse, students think that it is “cool” to vape and they see others doing it so they want to join everyone else and try and fit in.

If the use of tobacco and the use of vapes is not somehow prevented in the youth of the Silver Valley, then there is going to be a lot of new problems that come from this.
