Man killed in logging accident near Calder

CALDER — The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office reports that on January 25, 2019 at 1:22 p.m., Deputies responded to the area of Micah Meadows near Calder, Idaho, in response to a logging accident which resulted in a fatality.

According to on-scene witnesses, Goicoechea Logging INC. crew member Joseph W. Johnston Jr, 32, of Post Falls, Idaho was operating a processor at a logging site when the ground underneath the machine gave way. The processor and Joseph (who was inside of it) then tumbled down the hillside approximately 450 feet.

As a result of the fall, Joseph was ejected from the machine and suffered fatal injuries.

SCSO Undersheriff Holly Lindsey states that “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Joseph’s family during this incredibly difficult time.”
