KELLOGG — The Kellogg Police Department has identified three suspects involved in a spree of vehicle burglaries that occurred on Jan. 18.
KPD Sgt. Paul Twidt explains that the three juveniles (two local, one not) are believed to have stolen items — such as cash, sunglasses and even a .38 special revolver with a brown holster — from vehicles in the Emerald Division of Kellogg.
Law enforcement even has video footage of the culprits breaking into one of the vehicles. It is believed that the items were taken from four to seven different vehicles in the area.
As of Jan. 24, KPD has taken one of the suspects into custody and Sgt. Twidt said he is confident they will find the other two. KPD is less certain of finding all of the stolen items though (including the firearm), as many are believed to have already been sold for cash or spent.
The toughest part of this incident is that all of the vehicles burglarized that night did not require any sort of breaking and entering — they were all unlocked.
To prevent situations like this from happening again, Twidt stresses the importance of safeguarding your possessions.
“Even though that we are a nice, small community — it’s still a good practice to lock your items up,” he said. “No matter where you are at, there are people that want to steal things.”
The remaining two suspects that have not been arrested have been identified and their charges and arrests are pending.
