Friends of the pool make sure kids have place to swim

WALLACE — With the status of the Wallace City Pool still up in the air, the Friends of the Wallace City Pool have stayed busy this summer.
City officials announced earlier this year the pool would be closed for the season. Something is causing it to lose water, with very little evidence as to where the water is going.
The city hired an engineering firm to look at the potential options for the pool and to identify the cause of the water loss.
Core samples were taken from the pool site and those results are still pending, but in the meantime the city of Wallace had a bunch of kids looking to cool off during the dog days of summer.
Right now, through the end of August, the Friends of the Wallace City Pool has arranged for kids to have access to the Mullan pool.
Every Tuesday and Thursday (excluding this week due to the holiday) kids can meet at Wallace Jr./Sr. High School and they will be bused to the Mullan Pavilion where they can swim from noon to 3 p.m. before the bus brings them back down the hill.
When it comes to getting the kids to the pool, it isn’t just about keeping cool, there are some real life applications to be familiar with water that make this arrangement important as well.
“We want our kids to have a safe place to swim,” said Amy Lynn, Friends of the Pool board member. “There’s so much water around here, we really need to make sure our kids are comfortable in the water and that they can swim.”
The Friends have raised quite a bit of money this summer to help finance any projects that may come along with the results of those core sample findings, and folks will continue to see them fundraising at all of the major Wallace events going on this summer.
The Friends of the Wallace City Pool is an organization that was created years ago to help provide guidance and a vision for the pool.
