Leadman continues to give back to the community

KELLOGG –– The Kellogg Rotary Club continued their generous way on Monday as they presented two checks to local organizations for their help with the Leadman races that were ran earlier this year.
The Kellogg Storm Football program received $4,000 for their help during the event, which Rotary Club member Sid Armstrong said was indispensable.
“They were up on the hill helping with the transition from the skiing portion of the race to the bike,” Armstrong said. “They dug little trenches in the snow, stood the bikes, helped riders to their bikes, picked up their skis and loaded them into the truck to be brought down. They had an absolutely huge presence, they really helped us a ton.”
The other check presented was to Pinehurst Elementary School for $1,000 to help them continue to upgrade their IT materials.
The other recipients who weren’t on hand to receive their funds were the Silver Valley Special Olympics, Shoshone Medical Center’s Kids Fair, and the Kellogg Middle School Art Program.
In total the Kellogg Rotary Club donated $7,500 this year and has donated roughly $142,000 in the 15 years that the Leadman Race has been in existence.
“It was a good year, we had lots of help,” Armstrong said. “We had our second most participants for the event so it was good to have all the help we had.”
The race is a partnership between the Rotary Club partners and Silver Mountain and both sides agree that without the help it would be almost impossible for the race to happen.
“It takes a lot of people to put this race on,” Silver Mountain General Manager Jeff Colburn said. “It’s been a great partnership for us over the years.”
Leadman is an annual triathlon held on Silver Mountain in the late spring time.
Competitors can compete as individuals or as part of a team.
