Get ready for Dare to Imagine Camp 2019

KELLOGG — Dare to Imagine Summer Camp is literally right around the corner as campers will be flooding Kellogg Middle School on Monday morning.

The free weeklong summer camp has grown in popularity over the years and camp organizers expect this year to be no different and even tailored the camp to give it a localized feel.

“This year we have some great new activities and some changing activities,” said Ed Warren, camp organizer. “The big thing is that we have changed or targeted our activities to be more for kids in our area.”

What Warren means by that is that instead of just having a cooking class, the camp will provide an outdoor cooking class where kids will learn how to cook over an open flame, charcoal or propane for example.

Fish and Game will be teaching a shooting class, which will accompany existing activities like archery, equestrian, cycling, golf, games and sports, cooking, science, center shot, imagination station, drama, arts and crafts, fishing and tennis.

“I’m excited,” Warren said. “I think we are going to have an awesome year and put on a great camp.”

The camp has averaged between 200 and 300 campers each year.

In 2014, the three Silver Valley school districts partnered with the Silver Valley Ministerial Association and the Dare to Imagine Coalition was created.

DTIC brought the valley school districts, community members, organizations, businesses and churches together to provide a variety of supports to the children of our community.

One of DTIC roles is to identify volunteers, provide a summer enrichment camp for students and promote volunteerism.

Children only need to be registered once, but can be registered on any day if a child misses any of the prior days and each child must have their own registration forms for things like allergies, or any specific needs.

Transportation is provided for both the east and west ends of Shoshone County.

Camp will be Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with lunch provided to all of the campers.
