SMELTERVILLE — The City Hall building in Smelterville, as well as City Park, recently received a bit of a makeover courtesy of the volunteers from the Idaho Servant Adventures.

The park has been a project for some time now as various construction projects have taken place over the last couple seasons and according to city officials the Smelterville City Hall building hadn’t had any exterior work done to it in at least 20 years despite a growing need.

From pulling weeds and cleaning up debris to washing down the playground equipment, the kids did a fantastic job getting the park cleaned up, according to Smelterville city clerk Heidi Klein.

The kids also got to work scraping and painting the outside of City Hall, giving the old gray concrete building a nice new blue look to it.

The multiple projects only took the kids three days to wrap up, which really stood out to Smelterville’s officials who praised the volunteers for their hard work and rewarded them with a special pizza lunch.

“The city of Smelterville greatly appreciated ISA’s support and assistance painting City Hall and cleaning up the park,” Klein said. “We want to thank them so much for their incredible performance. The kids were very polite and hardworking. We look forward to working with them again in the upcoming years.”

The Idaho Servant Adventures program was founded in 2008 and grew exponentially a few years ago when AmeriCorps partnered with them.

In its 12-year existence, some 350 volunteers have made their way to Shoshone Mountain Retreat as part of the Lutherhaven Ministries to make a difference in the local communities.

The servant volunteers come from different areas around the country and help with a number of projects like this one, but also at the local Dare to Imagine Summer Camp, as well as other labor intensive projects throughout the area.

Types of projects that they have completed in the past include home repair, yard work, light construction, kids programs, heavy cleaning, wood splitting, elderly assistance, work with the disabled, parks improvement and trail work.
