KELLOGG — In the world of medical professionals, one special nurse stood out above the rest this year.

Ashley Van Hoose was recently named Shoshone Medical Center’s employee of the year for her exemplary work in the SMC Emergency Department, as well as her other work throughout the hospital.

Van Hoose was chosen by her fellow SMC employees for the honor based on their observations over the course of the year.

Van Hoose has been in the medical field as a registered nurse for a little over four years and in that time she has come to really love working in the ER.

“I really like not knowing what’s coming in next,” Van Hoose said.

As if being an RN in the ER wasn’t enough, Van Hoose also works as the Emergency Room Coordinator, filling the roles of nurse and supervisor simultaneously.

Working 12-hour shifts, three days a week can be taxing on a person, but according to Van Hoose’s colleagues, she never allows the job to get to her.

Nominations are submitted anonymously, but they truly show how much Van Hoose’s contemporaries enjoy working with her.

“She is such a great co-worker, works hard, and is always willing to listen to our concerns. She encourages us everyday and always has a smile on her face and is an excellent nurse. We are so lucky to have her here at SMC.”

Receiving this award is a huge milestone in her career that was slightly delayed, but incredibly satisfying nonetheless.

“I always wanted to be a nurse, but I had kids first and then I went back to school,” Van Hoose said. “It’s a huge honor, I strive to make this a better place for patients and other employees who work here. I love working here, it really is like being a part of a family.”

The administration at SMC echoed those thoughts as well.

“We are so lucky to have Ashley here with us,” said Shayleen Jerome, SMC Business Development coordinator. “Her outstanding body of work speaks for itself and we are truly happy to have her as part of the SMC family.”
