WALLACE – A motorist reported to officials on Monday that she saw what she believed to be a mountain lion chasing a woman on a popular local biking path.

The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office reports that on June 3 at approximately 12 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes, east of Wallace, after a 911 caller said she saw the animal following a woman who was riding a bicycle on the trail.

The reporting party, who allegedly saw the situation while driving on Interstate-90, immediately contacted law enforcement and deputies quickly were able to locate the woman on the bicycle.

Upon contact however, the bicyclist was unaware of any large cat chasing her.

The reporting party was confident she saw a mountain lion running after the woman on the trail, but deputies were not able to confirm the report.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game has been notified and are actively looking into the incident.
