KELLOGG — The Kellogg High School Girls Basketball Program recently held a special alumni charity game to raise money for the program.

Despite being a competitive game, spectators were encouraged to get involved and pay for special advantages, rule changes, and even points if the price was right.

“The game went well, very competitive,” head coach Jana Nearing said. “It’s hard to say who came out on top, because part of the fun was having the fans pay for things like, add 10 points, switch the score.”

With school funding being a constant issue in Idaho, programs like the Lady Wildcats’ are encouraged to hold fundraising events like this one if they want anything more than the status quo.

“We had a good turn out and made about $700 for the girls basketball program,” Nearing said. “That money will be used for things like, hotel upgrades at state, team travel uniforms, socks, backpacks, team dinners, HUDL, summer team camps, and summer league tournaments.”

The group will be hosting more fundraisers throughout the summer, including a girls basketball camp later this month for young girls in grades 4 through 7.

“Camp will be ran by myself and our team with the help of a few other girls and AAU coaches in the community,” Nearing said. “All of the money from that camp will also go to our girls program.”

Kellogg High School’s Girls Basketball Camp is set for June 10, 11, 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
